Sales Engineer
Job Summary
The role focuses on designing flexible piping components to match customer needs and applicable design codes. Products are metallic in construction and include metal hose assemblies and expansion joints. The role requires working closely with inside sales, marketing, manufacturing, purchasing and quality in addition to other engineering team members.
We recognize the value of equipping engineers with sales skills given the critical technical expertise they can provide in servicing existing customers and acquiring new ones. Once up to speed on product knowledge and the industry, we expect engineers to assume a role that focuses on managing and developing key customer relationships. This will require 10-20% travel.
Responsibilities
- Product Expertise: Develop a deep understanding of our products and services, their features and benefits, and how they are used to solve piping challenges.
- Technical Sales: Design and quote products to meet customer needs and applicable design codes, including ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, EJMA and/or EU PED.
- Account Management: Cultivate and maintain relationships with customers in assigned territory. This includes on-site visits, training sessions and visits to end user facilities.
- Product Development: Support business development and marketing with technical inquiries for new products from prospective customers.
- Customer-Service Mindset: In a business that sees well over 90% of sales from repeat customers, a focus on customer service is non-negotiable. It’s something that sets Penflex apart from the competition.
Ideal Background & Experience
- BS or MS, Mechanical Engineering or similar field of study. (Required)
- 2D design software (AutoCAD, Inventor, Mechanical Desktop, etc.) (Required)
- Must be able to complete detailed mathematical and engineering calculations.
- Experience working in a team environment.
- Experience working with customers.
- Experience with Microsoft Office suite.
- Experience in relevant design or industry work (metal forming) a plus.
- Finite element analysis skills (Cosmos, Solid Works, etc.) a plus.
- Pipe stress analysis (AutoPipe, Caesar, etc.) skills a plus.
- Knowledge of ERP systems or other similar programs a plus.
